Taking Care of One Another

Everyone needs help from time to time, whether in sickness, the death of a loved one, a new baby or just a tough life struggle. At Intercession, we understand the importance of taking care of one another, and have several ways that we minister to our congregation and the wider community.

Caring Ministers

A Caring Minister may be assigned when an individual is facing a difficult life situation – serious illness, death of a loved one, divorce, hospitalization, or other stressful times. The length of time a Caring Minister is involved varies according to need. Some may meet with a care receiver a few times, others for weeks or months. Our training is grounded in prayer. We are taught to understand a person’s reaction to death, loss, and grief. We learn listening skills so that we can provide support and understanding. We do not offer advice or counseling. This ministry is confidential.

Some Caring Ministers are trained as Lay Eucharistic Ministers and can take communion to a person who is housebound. If you or someone you know would benefit from talking to a Caring Minister, or needs communion, please contact Linda Vaughan.

Prayer Chain

Our prayer chain offers a way to live into the name of our church, Intercession. Prayer is an integral part of the Christian life and the prayer chain offers a way for anyone to be involved in this important part of parish ministry. The prayer chain is an effective way to enlist the prayers of many for yourself or loved ones, as well as to offer gratitude, or to give updates on those being prayed for.

If you would like to be a member of the prayer chain, please contact Linda Vaughan. You may also submit a prayer request the same way.

Quilters

If you have a love for making beautiful quilts that bring love and warmth to others, then please join our Quilting group. The Quilters meet monthly from 9 a.m. to 12 Noon to make quilts for those in need. We donate our completed quilts to those in need at Growing Home, Hope House and Denver Health New Born Nursery. If you would like more information, please contact Margaret Zeaphey.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

The Prayer Shawl Ministry is a group of compassionate people who use their gift of knitting, crocheting and blanket making to deliver a gift of love to those in need. We also make these items for happy times too. Each shawl is dutifully prayed over by members of the church community, and symbolizes being wrapped in God's love, enveloped with hope and comfort.

Once prayed over and blessed, our shawls are delivered to parishioners, hospices, hospitals, or anyone in need of comfort. ALL are welcomed to participate in this ministry by making shawls or by praying, and if you would like more information please contact .

These shawls/blankets help the receiver by giving them encouragement and showing them a community of love.

If you would like more information or to join this ministry please contact Diana Johnson.
